The McClatchy Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They suffered a rough 88-68 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), McClatchy still had to take the loss.
McClatchy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendall Andrews, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Andrews hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Vincent Seyford, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Kentrell Kelly continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Monterey Trail, scoring 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelly has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Gibson Jr, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McClatchy dropped their record down to 6-17 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Monterey Trail, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season.
McClatchy will be playing in front of their home fans against Grant at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grant knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully McClatchy likes a good challenge. As for Monterey Trail, they will head out on the road to take on Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while Monterey Trail is ranked 36th).
