Baseball Game Preview: Ralston Valley Mustangs vs. Columbine Rebels

For the second straight game, Ralston Valley will face off against Columbine. The Mustangs will square off against the Rebels at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ralston Valley has four straight victories, Columbine has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ralston Valley's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Columbine 12-0. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Ralston Valley got a great performance from Jake Watts as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Degan Gregory and Nico Benallo did most of the damage at the plate: Gregory went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Benallo went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Ralston Valley is undefeated when Gregory posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brayden Gillest, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Ralston Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Columbine's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Ralston Valley, their record now sits at 9-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ralston Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts.
