After a string of three wins, the Tocoi Creek Toros's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a tough 55-35 loss at the hands of Providence School. While losing is never fun, Tocoi Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Providence School is ranked 24th).
Tocoi Creek's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mckenzie Mabry, who scored ten points, and Gabi Iturralde who scored 13 points along with five steals. Iturralde has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Audrey Beyer was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Providence School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Janai Jordan, who went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 5 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jordan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julianna Baskin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Tocoi Creek's loss dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Providence School, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tocoi Creek's road trip will continue as they head out to face Atlantic Coast at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Atlantic Coast's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine games. As for Providence School, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
