Westlake is 1-8 against Lehi since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Thunder will welcome the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Westlake is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Pleasant Grove, who was ranked 12th at the time (Westlake was ranked 11th). The Thunder fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The match marked the Thunder's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Ryan Pead was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Lehi came into Tuesday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Skyridge on Tuesday by a score of 9-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Not much got past Abbi Harroun, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Skyridge off the board.
On the hitting side, Mya Maughan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brynlee Cook, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Lehi lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Lehi's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Westlake, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Westlake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lehi struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Westlake skirted past Lehi 2-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Pioneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
