Baseball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Wayne's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Wayne never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on the Newark Reds with a sharp 8-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Parker Holtz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wayne let Caleb Celso and Michael Grasso run wild. Celso went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Grasso went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Celso has posted since back in April.

Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Newark, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
