Basketball Game Preview: Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings vs. Holy Name Green Wave

The Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings will face off against the Holy Name Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Villa Angela-St. Joseph is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph will head into Saturday's match on the come-up: they were handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Max S. Hayes on Saturday. Villa Angela-St. Joseph blew past Max S. Hayes 93-9. With the Vikings ahead 65-1 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph can attribute much of their success to Elizabeth Dunmire, who almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, ten boards, and nine assists, and Sydney Dunmire, who went 9 of 15 en route to 20 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Elizabeth's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmyne Nelson, who went 6 for 11 on her way to 12 points and four steals.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 23 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Holy Name sidestepped Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin for a 45-43 victory.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Holy Name, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph was dealt a bruising 57-28 loss at the hands of Holy Name in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. Can Villa Angela-St. Joseph avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
