Unity Reed has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Tuesday. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Freedom Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Unity Reed focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Monday.
Unity Reed pushed their score all the way to 72, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Rock Ridge by a score of 75-72. While losing is never fun, Unity Reed can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Rock Ridge is ranked 73rd).
Despite the loss, Unity Reed had strong showings from Charles Pargo, who scored 27 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks, and Julian Shahateet, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 assists. The match was Pargo's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zayden NIchols, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Even though they lost, Unity Reed were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Freedom had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Osbourn Park 75-47 on the road. That looming 75-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Freedom yet this season.
Unity Reed's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Freedom, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.
Things could have been worse for Unity Reed, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-48 loss to Freedom when the teams last played back in January. Can Unity Reed avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
