On Friday, East Wake Academy got the win against Kerr-Vance Academy by a conclusive 26-4. The Eagles have beaten the Spartans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Robbie Johnston made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnston was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dexter Benton, who fired off two home runs, nine RBI, and five runs while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Jordan Driver, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
East Wake Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kerr-Vance Academy only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Neuse Charter unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Wake Prep Academy by a score of 6-5 on Monday.
Like East Wake Academy, Neuse Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Phillips. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Phillips was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Brayden Parr made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Hayden Jones was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
