The Fort Thomas Apaches scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They snuck past Hayden with a 76-72 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Fort Thomas found their leader in underclassman Damare Dosela, who shot 6-for-12 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Dosela hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Channing Wilson, who scored 18 points.
Hayden lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Keiston Pool, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 22 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Pool has scored all season. Tyler Garner was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
Fort Thomas has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Hayden, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Thomas won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on January 19th. Joseph City is on a seven-game streak of home wins, the Apaches a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Hayden, they will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Mogollon is ranked 251st, while the Lobos are ranked 233rd).
