The West Perry Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Boiling Springs Bubblers at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. West Perry will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
On Thursday, West Perry came up short against Mifflin County and fell 16-11. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost three in a row.
Addi Lupfer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Rylann Kelly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boiling Springs). They blew past Susquehanna Township 26-2 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bubblers with their most commanding win of the season.
Evelyn Wiedenmayer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Boiling Springs got a massive performance out of Nina Dugonjic, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Dugonjic has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Fry, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Boiling Springs hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Boiling Springs' record now sits at 5-10. As for West Perry, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Boiling Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Perry has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Boiling Springs, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given West Perry's sizable advantage in that area, the Bubblers will need to find a way to close that gap.
West Perry got the 'W' in their previous meeting on April 2nd against Boiling Springs by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
