The Taylor Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Mainland Buccaneers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taylor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Taylor took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Crescent City 13-1. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.
Drew Moyer was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Ramos, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jace Harcus, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Taylor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Mainland hadn't done well against Matanzas recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Mainland sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-14 win over Matanzas. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buccaneers have posted since April 9, 2024.
Mainland let Jace Payne and Slade Suber run wild. Payne scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Suber went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Allen, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The win was the third in a row for Mainland, bringing their record for this year to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Taylor, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Taylor has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mainland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Taylor couldn't quite finish off Mainland when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can Taylor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
