Northside hasn't had much luck against Taft recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Northside will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Monday, Northside got the win against Westinghouse by a conclusive 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Leir Dierdorff made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Taft never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Lake View on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 12-0 shutout. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Taft got a massive performance out of Andrew Korolis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Korolis has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Muntean, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Taft always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2025.
Northside's record now sits at 13-4. As for Taft, their record is now 9-11.
Northside suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Taft in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
