The Palm Desert Aztecs and the Valley View Eagles squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but sadly the Palm Desert Aztecs had to settle for second. They took a hard 69-52 fall against the Eagles. Palm Desert has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Palm Desert's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Coby Christensen, who scored 26 points along with two steals, and Jecorey Jones who scored 15 points along with two steals. That was a full 50% of Palm Desert's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Reid Gorman, who scored four points.
Valley View found their leader in underclassman Charles Knight, who scored 32 points. Knight is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 12 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Grant, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Palm Desert's defeat dropped their record down to 23-6. As for Valley View, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-11.
Palm Desert does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Valley View, they will face off against South Pasadena at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Valley View's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests.
