The South Point Pointers will head out to square off against the Wayne Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Point is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
South Point managed to slip by Rock Hill the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pointers came up short against the Redmen on Monday, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Pointers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Kota Copley put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Copley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Adyson Copley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, Wayne didn't have quite enough to beat Sissonville on Monday and fell 12-11. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wayne got a massive performance out of Lexi Napier, who went 4-for-5 with four runs and two doubles. Kylee Copley was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Wayne now has a losing record of 8-9. As for South Point, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5.
Wayne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Point has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Wayne, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given South Point's sizable advantage in that area, the Pioneers will need to find a way to close that gap.
South Point came up short against Wayne when the teams last played back in March, falling 10-5. Can the Pointers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
