Quartz Hill is 8-2 against Highland since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Royals will head out on the road to take on the Bulldogs at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Highland will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Quartz Hill extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Royals never let Antelope Valley get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. 13 seems to be a good number for the Royals as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Quartz Hill got a massive performance out of Nina Sepulveda, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Emily Cowan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Quartz Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .759. They are 13-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland). They blew past Lancaster 14-3 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Alaina Diehl made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Evalina Chavez and Bella Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Chavez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Williams went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Williams a new career-high. Kenzie Martinez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Highland's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Quartz Hill, their record is now 17-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Quartz Hill hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Quartz Hill skirted past Highland 3-1 in their previous meeting on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
