Hertford County hasn't had much luck against First Flight recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bears will square off against the Nighthawks at 6:00 p.m. Hertford County has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hertford County is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Northeastern on Friday. They lost 11-1 to the Eagles.
Hertford County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Barmer, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Zy'Juan Tann also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, First Flight beat Pasquotank County 5-1 on Friday. The Nighthawks haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Dylan McAvoy tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Fionn Reilly, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Hertford County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for First Flight, their record is now 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hertford County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like First Flight struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Hertford County might still be hurting after the 21-6 loss they got from First Flight in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
