Basketball Recap: Evansville North Comes Up Short

Evansville North was the 60-37 winner over New Albany when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Evansville North Huskies took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Albany Bulldogs on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Huskies came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 233rd).

When it comes to explaining why Evansville North lost, don't look at Libby Blythe. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Blythe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zhaeyana Cooper, who posted six points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Evansville North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Evansville North's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for New Albany, their victory bumped their record up to 6-16.

Evansville North wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-56 defeat against Jeffersonville on the 25th. As for New Albany, they are taking a road trip to square off against Seymour at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
