The Girard Yellowjackets will venture away from home to face off against the Cathedral Prep Ramblers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Girard's hitters haven't had much luck over their past five matchups, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Girard didn't have quite enough to beat Fairview and fell 3-2.
Cate Bennett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Danielle Suscheck was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, while Cathedral Prep put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Conneaut Area. The Ramblers blew past the Eagles 12-0. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Ramblers yet this season.
Morgan Madura was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Madura was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Audrey Wojnarowski was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kendyll Steves was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Cathedral Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Cathedral Prep and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Girard, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Girard suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Cathedral Prep in their previous meeting on April 9th. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
