Fortuna has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fortuna walked away with it. They took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 36-0 win over Middletown.
Meanwhile, St. Vincent de Paul had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kennedy 56-12 at home. With St. Vincent de Paul ahead 42-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
St. Vincent de Paul's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabe Casanovas, who threw for 129 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Joseph Edwards was in the mix too, providing St. Vincent de Paul with two touchdowns.
Fortuna is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for St. Vincent de Paul, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Fortuna came up short against St. Vincent de Paul in their previous matchup back in September, falling 22-15. Can Fortuna avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
