Rivermont Collegiate has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Quad Cities Christian Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Rivermont Collegiate earned a 52-42 victory over East Moline Christian. Given Rivermont Collegiate's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 251st in Iowa, while East Moline Christian is ranked 661st in Illinois), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eamon Matlock was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Soulaymane El Jerari, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Quad Cities Christian put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Tri-State Christian with a sharp 67-43 win. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-20.
It was another big night for Seth Karl, who scored 21 points along with five assists and five steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Zeke Agbezouhlon was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five steals.
Rivermont Collegiate has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Quad Cities Christian, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Rivermont Collegiate have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 35.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Quad Cities Christian struggles in that department as they've drained 41.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Rivermont Collegiate ended up a good deal behind Quad Cities Christian when the teams last played back in November of 2023, losing 55-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Karl, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Now that Rivermont Collegiate knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
