Given Mechanicsville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Caroline is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mechanicsville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elizabeth Hardwick out in front who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kedelin Santos, who scored 13 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Mechanicsville's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Caroline, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Mechanicsville won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Powhatan at 7:30 p.m. on November 28th. As for Caroline, they will head out on the road to face off against King William at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
