The Portal Panthers are still undefeated this season after their matchup against the Statesboro Blue Devils on Friday, but the Statesboro Blue Devils came as close as anyone has to beating them. Portal had just enough and edged Statesboro out 59-56. That's two games straight that Portal has won by exactly three points.
Portal's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amir Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marion Tremble, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Portal pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Statesboro, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portal is on the road again on Saturday and play against Vidalia at 5:30 p.m. on January 6th. As for Statesboro, they will challenge Coffee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
