After flying high against the Livingston Wolves on Friday, the Calaveras Red Hawks came back down to earth. Calaveras was the victim of a rough 77-57 defeat at the hands of Patterson on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Calaveras can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 754th, while Patterson is ranked 99th).
Despite the loss, Calaveras still got an impressive performance from Earl Wood, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Clifton, who scored 9 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Speaking of assists, Calaveras were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Patterson only racked up eight.
David Nnaji continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Patterson, scoring 30 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 steals. The matchup was Nnaji's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amari Coley, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Calaveras has fallen quite a ways from their 25-7 record last season and are now at 3-5. As for Patterson, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Calaveras will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Linden at 7:30 p.m. As for Patterson, they will head out on the road to face off against Ripon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ripon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
