On Friday, The Lighthouse Christian Lions faced the Murtaugh Red Devils in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lighthouse Christian was beaten by Murtaugh 63-30. Lighthouse Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-8.
Despite the loss, Lighthouse Christian saw an underclassman step up: Johnny Millenkamp rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Jr. Benites went supernova for Murtaugh, rushing for 302 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Benites was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Soyer Young and his 80 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Murtaugh's win.
Lighthouse Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Murtaugh, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
