The Brooks Eagles will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the South Shore International Tars at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Brooks can now relate to. They were beaten by the Dolphins 81-48 on Monday. While losing is never fun, Brooks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 646th, while Whitney Young is ranked 16th).
Brooks' defeat came about despite a quality game from Antwonette Golatte, who scored 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Golatte has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Nash, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 82-21, which was the final score in South Shore International's tilt against Lane Tech on Monday. South Shore International has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brooks' loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Shore International, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Brooks, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-35 loss to South Shore International when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Brooks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
