Watertown is 7-2 against Derby since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Watertown Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Derby Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
While Watertown couldn't quite beat Kennedy on Wednesday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 20-point defeat they were dealt on Friday. Watertown fell just short of Kennedy by a score of 60-58. Watertown has struggled against Kennedy recently, as their match on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Justin Black Jr. and Terrance Morrison. Morrison had a great game and scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Meanwhile, Black Jr. did his best for the losing side, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Watertown were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only racked up six assists.
Derby suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by St. Paul Catholic on the road and fell 87-45. Derby has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Watertown bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road. As for Derby, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-8.
Watertown skirted past Derby 64-61 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Watertown repeat their success, or does Derby have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
