St. John is 2-8 against Grand Valley since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The St. John Fighting Herald will head out on the road to take on the Grand Valley Mustangs at 6:45 p.m. St. John will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, St. John beat Mathews 44-34. 44 seems to be a good number for St. John as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
St. John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mickey Zheng, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Zheng has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was alyssa cevera, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.
Grand Valley was handed a three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Windham on Wednesday. Grand Valley breezed by Windham at home to the tune of 54-26. Given Grand Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while Windham is ranked 600th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. John is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. As for Grand Valley, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Things could have been worse for St. John, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Grand Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can St. John avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
