Miller is 0-5 against Corpus Christi Moody since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Miller Buccaneers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans at 6:15 p.m.
After a string of three wins, Miller's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to Carroll. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Miller in their matchups with Carroll: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Miller saw an underclassman step up: Hailey Martinez scored 19 points. Martinez scored a full 42.2% of Miller's points, the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Julissa Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Corpus Christi Moody beat John Paul II 35-30 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that Corpus Christi Moody has won by exactly five points.
Among those leading the charge was Allerina Martinez, who scored 8 points along with 12 rebounds and 4 steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aleena Olivo, who scored 7 points along with 5 steals.
Their wins bumped Miller to 4-10 and Carroll to 4-10.
Miller was dealt a bruising 58-21 defeat at the hands of Corpus Christi Moody in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Miller, Jasmyn Rodriguez (who dropped a double-double on 13 rebounds and 10 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
