Discovery Canyon is 0-10 against Air Academy since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder will be playing at home against the Air Academy Kadets at 6:00 p.m. Discovery Canyon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Air Academy is ranked sixth).
After a string of five wins, Discovery Canyon's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They lost to Palmer Ridge on the road by a decisive 47-30 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Discovery Canyon in their matchups with Palmer Ridge: they've now lost seven in a row.
Discovery Canyon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Taylor Mccann, who scored six points along with five steals, and Natalie Neuhaus who scored 12 points along with two steals. Mccann is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, Air Academy stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 62-20 victory over Palmer. 62 seems to be a good number for Air Academy as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Air Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caitlin Kramer led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Kramer hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatyonna Brown, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Discovery Canyon's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-7. As for Air Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Discovery Canyon have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 30.5 rebounds per game. Given Discovery Canyon's sizeable advantage in that area, Air Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
Discovery Canyon was taken down by Air Academy 80-52 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Discovery Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
