On Saturday, the Thornton Wildcats faced the Metamora Redbirds in a battle between two of the state's top teams. In a tight game that could have gone either way, Thornton made off with a 63-62 victory over Metamora. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Thornton.
Thornton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morez Johnson, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Johnson has scored at least 25% of Thornton's points. Chase Abraham was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Thornton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Metamora, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton and Thornridge will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Thornridge has now lost 14 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 22. Metamora's road trip will continue as they head out to face Washington at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Washington will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
