Frontier is 0-4 against Morrison since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Monday, Frontier didn't have quite enough to beat Cimarron and fell 3-2.
Luke Draffin put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Draffin was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.
Draffin wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kolton Ingmire, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Garrett Williams also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Pioneer-Pleasant Vale hit Morrison with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 14-8 to the Mustangs.
Sterlin Casey made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Morrison: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Brady Petree was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Frontier's record now sits at 2-7. As for Morrison, their record is now 6-5.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Frontier has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Morrison struggles in that department as they've averaged .458. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Frontier might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Morrison in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
