Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 12 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles proved on Tuesday. They managed a 47-43 victory over Cedar Valley. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Maple Mountain.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Maple Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Leah Bailey, who scored 12 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Messick, who scored six points.
Maple Mountain's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Makayla Smith got a bit more time on the court (16 vs. her season average of 7.85). Smith made the most of the opportunity, scoring four points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Cedar Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Kaaihue, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hadley Whiting, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Maple Mountain's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Cedar Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-9.
Maple Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against Timpview at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Maple Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. As for Cedar Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Salem Hills at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Cedar Valley is ranked 43rd, while Salem Hills is ranked 32nd).
