The Maine South Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Deerfield Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maine South is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.
Even though Glenbrook South scored an imposing 36 points on Friday, Maine South still came out on top. Maine South walked away with a 45-36 victory over Glenbrook South. Given Maine South's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Glenbrook South is ranked 66th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Meanwhile, Deerfield came up short against Evanston on Friday and fell 32-25. That means Deerfield has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Despite the loss, Deerfield had strong showings from Quinn Schimanski, who gained 109 total yards and a touchdown, and Zach Friedman, who picked up 39 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Maine South's victory lifted them to 6-1 while Deerfield's loss dropped them down to 4-3.
Everything came up roses for Maine South against Deerfield when the teams last played back in September of 2015 as the team secured a 51-7 win. Does Maine South have another victory up their sleeve, or will Deerfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
