This season hasn't been kind to the Goochland Bulldogs, who are still winless after their fifth match. They took a serious blow against Monticello on Tuesday, falling 63-2. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Goochland in their matchups with Monticello: they've now lost six in a row.
Samantha Shifflett continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Monticello, scoring 15 points along with six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Maddie Branche, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Goochland bumped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.8 points per game. As for Monticello, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goochland will face off against Western Albemarle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Western Albemarle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Goochland in Virginia (Western Albemarle is ranked 52nd, while Goochland is ranked 363rd). Monticello won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Waynesboro at 7:30 p.m. on December 13th. Waynesboro and Monticello are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
