North Marion has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The North Marion Huskies and the Lincoln Cougars will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
North Marion scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Liberty 75-21 at home. That 54 points margin sets a new team best for North Marion this season.
North Marion's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Meya Kotsko, who scored 12 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Kotsko posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Emma Freels, who scored nine points along with six assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Lincoln waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fairmont Senior 77-28 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Lincoln has managed all season.
Ashlyn Riley was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 29 points, ten assists, and ten steals. Riley is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Brooklyn Davisson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists.
North Marion's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Lincoln, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Thursday as the pair are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. North Marion hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.6 points per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.9 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
North Marion took their victory against Lincoln in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 66-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Marion since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
