Hurricane and Spring Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Redskins will host the Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hurricane is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Hurricane is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Cabell Midland, who was ranked first at the time (Hurricane was ranked sixth). The Redskins fell just short of the Knights by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Redskins' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Kate Justice spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five contest, Spring Valley brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on Huntington with a sharp 13-7 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Spring Valley got a massive performance out of Kennedy Davis, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Davis has posted over her last eight contests. Another player making a difference was Sydney Turner, who went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.
The win snapped Spring Valley's losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 11-12 record. As for Hurricane, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 12-1 and their overall record down to 21-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hurricane hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Spring Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Hurricane's way against Spring Valley in their previous meeting back in April, as Hurricane made off with an 11-3 victory. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Timberwolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
