The Pittston Patriots will head out to face off against the Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Pittston is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Last Sunday, Pittston made easy work of Wyoming Area and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
TJ Johnson looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Nick Innamorati was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Richard Tonte, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Pittston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyoming Area only posted a batting average of .133.
Meanwhile, Greater Nanticoke Area came up short against Wilkes-Barre on Monday and fell 5-2.
Derek Miller was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Miller was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Derek Shemanski, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Serafino Raggi also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Pittston's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Greater Nanticoke Area's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pittston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. It's a different story for Greater Nanticoke Area, though, as they've only averaged .243. Will they be able to contain Pittston's hitters?
