After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Exeter, The Immanuel Eagles were happy to have found some success on Friday. They breezed by Hanford West at home to the tune of 29-0. This was payback for Immanuel, who suffered a 13-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Immanuel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Shane Spomer out in front who rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was John Viscarra, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hanford West to a paltry 112 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Immanuel's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Tyler Romo and his two sacks.
Immanuel's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.5 points per game. As for Hanford West, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Immanuel will be playing at home against Central Valley Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Central Valley Christian's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games. Hanford West will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Sierra Pacific at 7:30 p.m. on October 26th. Sierra Pacific is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
