The Freedom Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 56-33 walloping at the hands of Phillipsburg. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Freedom has scored all season.
Phillipsburg was led to victory by Andrew Martin and Matthew Scerbo Jr.. Martin scored 19 points, while Scerbo Jr. scored 25 points along with five assists. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayveon Jackson, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Freedom has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Phillipsburg, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freedom will challenge Bethlehem Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Phillipsburg won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Easton Area at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Easton Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 431st in Pennsylvania, while Phillipsburg is ranked 57th in New Jersey).
