The Alta Hawks will square off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Alta has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Alta came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Olympus, falling 15-5. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Danica Doyle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Anabel Velador was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wolverines get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Give the Sentinels' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Mountain Ridge got a massive performance out of Sydney Lambert, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Lambert has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Van Renselaar, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Mountain Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .462 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Mountain Ridge pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Alta, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alta hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alta suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Mountain Ridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
