Softball Recap: West Branch Extends Winning Streak to Three

West Branch waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Marlington Dukes a 5-0 shutout. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 7-5 loss the last time these two teams met.

Klary McKay was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Sara Schmidt was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Josie Milliken was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

West Branch's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Marlington, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

Coming up, West Branch will face off against Carrollton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carrollton has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.56 runs per game on average), something West Branch will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Marlington, they will venture away from home to face off against Hillsdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
