Valentine will head out on the road to face off against the Mullen Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Valentine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Valentine came up short against McCook and fell 43-35. Valentine has not had much luck with McCook recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Valentine's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kinsey Buechle, who scored 14 points along with 9 steals and 7 rebounds. Buechle scored a full 40% of Valentine's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Mullen had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against Sutherland by a score of 45-38.
Mullen found their leader in underclassman Hayley Donohoe, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Riley Hegland, who scored 7 points.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 1-1 season records intact.
Everything went Valentine's way against Mullen in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as Valentine made off with a 46-23 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valentine since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
