Schaumburg Christian had just enough and edged Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family out 54-51. Given Schaumburg Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family is ranked 387th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Schaumburg Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carynton Hobson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 20 rebounds. Hobson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Candela Garcia, who scored 23 points along with 7 steals and 6 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elizabeth Beto. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 steals. Beto scored a full 51% of Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Schaumburg Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.
Schaumburg Christian is on the road again on Tuesday and play against South Beloit at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. As for Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Islamic Foundation at 6:30 p.m.
