The Pewitt Brahmas will square off against the McLeod Longhorns at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pewitt lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bowie, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Brahmas were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Pirates on Tuesday. Considering the Brahmas have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Ryleigh Denmon, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma McCoy, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pewitt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, McLeod beat Detroit 10-6 on Tuesday.
Anna Dempsey spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Taylor Dees was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and one run. Madison Blair was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three RBI and one stolen base.
McLeod is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Pewitt, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pewitt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .515. However, it's not like McLeod struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pewitt might still be hurting after the 13-6 defeat they got from McLeod when the teams last played on March 3rd. Will the Brahmas have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
