Meade County is 9-1 against Breckinridge County since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Meade County Green Waves will head out on the road to square off against the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Meade County sitting on four straight wins and Breckinridge County on five.
Last Tuesday, Meade County's game was all tied up 25-25 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They blew past Nelson County 79-51 on the road. Given Meade County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Nelson County is ranked 164th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meade County relied on the efforts of Paige Medley, who scored 20 points along with two steals, and Peyton Bradley, who scored 23 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Bradley is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games she's played. Jaycelyn Nevitt was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Breckinridge County stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Apollo 55-27 at home. Breckinridge County pushed the score to 40-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Apollo had little chance of recovering from.
Breckinridge County found their leader in underclassman Elizabeth Grimes, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Grimes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caroline Lucas, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Meade County's win bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Breckinridge County, their win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Meade County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.3 points per game. However, it's not like Breckinridge County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Meade County was able to grind out a solid win over Breckinridge County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 58-45. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lucas, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Meade County still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
