Basketball Recap: South Fort Myers Falls Despite Big Games from Ja?Mahdi Ward and Lil Darius Sotomayor

If South Fort Myers was riding high fresh off their 60-30 takedown of The Village School of Naples last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Fort Myers Wolfpack opened the new year with a less-than-successful 56-43 defeat to the Cape Coral Seahawks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolfpack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-42 back in December of 2024.

South Fort Myers' loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Lil Darius Sotomayor and Ja?Mahdi Ward. Sotomayor went 6 for 15 on his way to 19 points, while Ward dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Ward is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 17 games he's played dating back to last season. Charles JaCkson was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

South Fort Myers' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6. As for Cape Coral, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.

South Fort Myers wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-46 defeat against Neumann on the 7th. As for Cape Coral, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-54 victory against Dunbar on the 7th.
