2A Region 1 recap November 19, 2013
Baldwyn added to the longest winning streak in 2A Region 1 this week by beating Bruce, 33-22. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Walnut fell to Calhoun City 43-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Duke Upshaw was a passing and rushing force as Baldwyn beat the Trojans. Upshaw's favorite target this week was Devonta Gates, who caught 3 passes for 47 yards.
Upshaw was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 138 yards as Michael Gray's team bested Bruce. Laquintez Upshaw also contributed to the rushing game with 88 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Mantachie's Dustin Carrell and Nick Burns have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Carrell has thrown for 2,001 yards this season, while Burns has 41 catches for 726 yards. New Site's J.T. Herring leads the league in rushing yards with 1,372.
The Bearcats led 2A Region 1 in scoring this week by notching 33 points on James Ray's team. Upshaw ran for 138 yards in the win.
