The Timnath Cubs will square off against the Skyview Wolverines at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Timnath focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Timnath really took it to Arrupe Jesuit for the full four quarters, racking up a 75-32 victory on the road. The victory was just what Timnath needed coming off of a 61-29 defeat in their prior matchup.
Timnath relied on the efforts of Gretchen Deines, who scored 14 points along with 6 steals, and Tiana Guzman, who scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Schimmelpfennig, who scored 10 points along with 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Skyview put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They slipped by Eaton 45-44.
Skyview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nevaeh Lucero led the charge by scoring 18 points. The game was Lucero's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Vero Munoz was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
The losses dropped Timnath to 1-1 and Arrupe Jesuit to 1-2.
Timnath came up short against Skyview when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 53-45. Can Timnath avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
