There's no place like home for the Verde Valley Coyotes, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Our Lady of the Sun Academy by a score of 48-40 on Thursday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Verde Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Angelo Ayuel, who scored 16 points. The contest was Ayuel's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zee Dickey, who scored 11 points.
Despite the loss, Our Lady of the Sun Academy still got an impressive performance from Joseph Reiss, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Reiss scored a full 55% of Our Lady of the Sun Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Isaac Ley was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Verde Valley's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1. As for Our Lady of the Sun Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Verde Valley will face off against Tri City Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Our Lady of the Sun Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Arrowhead Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Arrowhead Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
