Baseball Recap: Thomas Nelson Beats Bardstown for Their Third Straight Victory

Thomas Nelson won against Bardstown on Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Generals beat the Tigers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 14-3. Considering the Generals have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cole Girdley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Thomas Nelson: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Thomas Nelson got a massive performance out of Rylen Keith, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mason Dobson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The victory (which was Thomas Nelson's third in a row) raised their record to 8-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Bardstown, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-10-1.

Thomas Nelson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-0 victory against Pendleton County on the 19th. As for Bardstown, they have also already played their next matchup, a 12-1 loss against South Oldham on the 18th.
